Gear up for the Festival of Lights with SVARA’s Chanukah Extravaganza! SVARA Faculty, Fellows, teachers, and community leaders are offering up spaces across the country for rigorous, accessible Talmud learning as a spiritual practice leading up to and during Chanukah.
At SVARA, we love learning texts where our sages show their work as radical change-makers who are building a new world. Chanukah, our beloved holiday of gelt, lights, and fighting hegemonic powers (😉) is one such moment of radical change-making and creativity. What’s so rad about Chanukah?! Join us to dig into a Talmudic text SVARA-style to find out! Over the next few weeks we’ll be adding locations, dates, and registration links, as well as learning resources for folks who want to grab a chevruta and learn on their own! Stay tuned here for more info about how to join a bet midrash near you!

We’ve grabbed one of our fave sections from Masechet Shabbat, where the rabbis show their work in inventing Chanukah! (Talk about a blueprint for radical change-making?!) We’ll have a marked-off daf, Hint Sheets, Torah Verses Sheets, and all of the other goodies you need to grab a chevruta and bring the bet midrash to you. Download the resource packet here!
