Making Midrash: Beginnings
Taught by Jess Belasco
Mondays, Nov. 7-Dec. 19 | 6:00-8:00 PM ET | 5:00-7:00 PM CT | 3:00-5:00 PM PT | 7 sessions
Folks are invited to use a disability justice lens to read and write midrash (aka rabbinic fanfiction)! Our focus will be on the Creation story; we’ll begin by exploring Genesis in the original, followed by rabbinic midrash, followed by modern feminist midrash. Then we’ll bring our own experiences directly into the conversation through supported writing (and sharing, if we want!) of our own midrash.
The course will include learning in small groups or pairs. Texts will be in English; we’ll bring in Hebrew in supported ways as it’s relevant, but you don’t need a Hebrew background to participate. The class is open to all, but priority will be given to disabled/chronically ill/high risk folks.
