Join SVARA for a day of in-person Talmud learning!

We are thrilled to be coming back together for in-person learning in five cities this August! In the spirit of Queer Talmud Camp, we will gather as queer folks, radicals, and seekers to immerse in rigorous yeshiva-style learning amid warm, loving, and joyful community.

At SVARA Day Camps we will build a vibrant learning space that celebrates queer culture, elevates voices from the margins, and reveals the deeply rooted radical queerness of Jewish traditions. Day Camps are open to anyone who knows the alef-bet, whether you’re brand new to SVARA or have learned with us many times before!

To weave our in-person learning across space and place, we will have an online kick-off event and CRASH Talk with SVARA Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Benay Lappe and Associate Rosh Yeshiva Laynie Soloman on Thursday, August 1. After grounding our learning at the kick-off event, we will collectively learn the same sugya (Talmud text) in each bet midrash. In our sugya we’ll witness a battle between two houses and wrestle with how we hold on to what we value most, without letting our connections fall apart.

In addition to Talmud learning, there will be workshops facilitated by our amazing Kollel Fellows. Workshop options will be shared in the pre-camp email before gathering.

Lunch and dinner (AND SNACKS!) will be provided. All food will be vegetarian and kosher, and dietary requests are included in registration.

We are committed to COVID safety practices that align with building a better world that welcomes and cares for all, including the highest-risk members of our community. Day camp participants will agree to take precautions in the lead-up to the event, test upon arrival, and mask indoors throughout the program. We will also have air filters running at each venue. To learn more about our COVID policy or discuss specific access issues and potentially conflicting access needs, reach out to Ren.

Do you have any other day camp questions? Reach out to Nat or make an appointment to meet one-on-one with a staff member.

We can’t wait to learn with you!
