Unpacking the Teshuva Writer’s Toolbox
Mondays, June 17 through July 8
8-9:30pm ET | 7-8:30pm CT | 5-6:30pm PT
Taught by Laynie Soloman
In March 2023, SVARA’s Trans Halakha Project published a series of “teshuvot” (halakhic Q&A papers) that used halakhic language to ask and answer questions emerging directly out of our lives and experiences as trans Jews. But what even is a teshuva, how does it work, and how might one go about understanding or writing one? In this course we will—using the frameworks offered by the Trans Halakha Project’s teshuvot, alongside other rabbinic texts—explore the art and science of learning and creating teshuvot.
Who is this space for?
Open to anyone interested in learning more about creating teshuvot from a queer and trans normative perspective. Any text originally written in Hebrew will be available in English translation as well.
Structure:
- Four sessions and regular attendance is expected
- Readings in between sessions
- Includes breakout spaces
- All learning materials will be provided in an online portal
- Live captioning is available in the main Zoom space. If you would benefit from live captioning in breakout rooms, you can request it in our enrollment form!
