jUChicago Bet Midrash

jU, a program of The Institute for the Next Jewish Future, and the University of Chicago’s hottest new Jewish organization on campus, seeks to inspire and empower every Jewish student at the University of Chicago to build a meaningful Jewish adult life while at the University and after graduation.

jU and SVARA have teamed up to create a joint bet midrash for U of C undergraduates and graduate/professional students. Though our methodology follows a traditional style of learning, we  take a more open and even radical approach to the text.

The goal of this bet midrash is to learn how to learn and to create a community of deep thinkers dedicated to opening the Talmud to all and to developing a sophisticated conversation about the past, present, and future of Judaism.

The only prerequisites are your ability to decode the Hebrew alphabet (that is, knowing what sounds the letters make), and your commitment to attend every session (barring emergencies).

Monday evenings in Rockefeller Chapel on the University of Chicago campus.
