7:20-8:10 PM | Workshops

  • The Gate of Tears: Mourning as a Path to Justice facilitated by Xava De Cordova, SVARA Fellow
What can we do with all of the memory and heartache we are confronted with on Trans Day of Remembrance? What can the texts of our tradition teach us about the power of our collective grief? In this workshop, by exploring the conversation between ancient and modern Jewish thought, we can discover the answers together.
  • HaKol Krovav: Every One of Us Is Their Relative facilitated by Rabbi Micah Buck-Yael, SVARA Fellow
It is a common belief in the Jewish tradition that learning in the name of a deceased loved one has real power to connect us to them, and is a concrete way to give dignity and honor to our loved ones. In this session, we will gather as an extended family of transgender and nonbinary folks to engage in this spiritual practice of learning in memory of and with love for those who lost their lives to anti-transgender violence this year. We will encounter texts reflecting on the dignity, honor, and memory that are owed to our trans and nonbinary family. No prior text learning or Hebrew knowledge needed.
  • Embodied Lament facilitated by Koach Baruch-Frazier, SVARA Fellow
Creating a spiritual practice of embodied lament. Using Psalm 77, we’ll explore ways our bodies experience and release grief
  • Workshop for Cis-allies: Disrupting Transmisogyny and Transphobia facilitated by Jackie Maris & Jo Ware
Join us for conversation to build strategies in solidarity against transphobia and transmisogyny. Participants will reflect on their own gender journeys as a means to disrupt the lie that gender is immutable and static.
