Teacher Training

In SVARA’s bet midrash, teaching is a practice of co-learning and drawing out the insights of others. It is a process alive with intention, inquiry, and generative dialogue across difference.

Over the years we have shared this practice with the folks who have completed SVARA’s teacher training programs—over 80 people who are seeding the Jewish future worldwide by building innovative learning spaces of their own design.

A handful of colorful Frank dictionaries are placed on a wooden table.
A SVARA teacher is at the front of the room, gesturing with their hand as they speak to the room in front of them. A whiteboard can be seen behind them, with Rashi script written across it.
A picture taken from overhead shows a SVARA-nik placing both of their hands on a volume of Talmud on a wooden picnic table in front of them.
A SVARA Fellow is standing outdoors with a colorful checkered shirt on, a bright blue N95 mask, and a kippah that reads "Black Lives Matter."

Alums of our teacher-training programs emerge with a new lens through which to view the Talmud. They understand that Judaism’s approach to creating fully realized human beings requires them to be flexible in the face of rapid change.

Check out what our alums are doing!

A SVARA fairy stands in front of a large bookshelf filled with volumes of Talmud and other learning materials. They glance down at a dictionary in their hands. They have a light blue mask on and a denim jacket.
