Teaching for Liberation: A SVARA Facilitation Toolkit

Join SVARA for a training where we’ll share tools and techniques for liberatory learning in these times.

Monday, July 13, 2020 | 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM ET | REGISTER HERE

At SVARA, we believe the Talmud is a guidebook for liberation and radical innovation. We teach Talmud in order to empower and transform learners so that they can grow into their boldest, most courageous, and compassionate selves.

We are living through a CRASH–a moment of tremendous change, uncertainty, and brokenness that, if we respond to it correctly, will lead to transformation. In this complex moment—and always—we rely on our traditions and practices to help us practice resilience and cultivate connection to each other.

As educators, facilitators, and spiritual leaders, many of us have had to learn very quickly how to reshape our practices, our teaching methods, and our pedagogies. Taught by Laynie Soloman and R’ Mónica Gomery, this is a training for those of us responding to the unique challenges and opportunities of this current moment. We’re excited to share some ways we’ve learned to do this powerful work at SVARA, along with tips, tools, and frameworks for your own community spaces, classrooms, and batei midrash. All participants will be offered a 30-minute coaching session with a SVARA Faculty member after completing this training.

This training will:

  • Provide participants with a toolkit to help them incorporate best practices for online facilitation that is engaging, empowering, accessible, and deep.
  • Introduce participants to SVARA’s approach to teaching Talmud and creating educational spaces that are:
    • Rigorous
    • Joyful
    • Accessible
    • Queer-normative
    • Empowering & celebratory
    • Spiritually vibrant
