Students wishing to learn in a more intensive bet midrash setting may choose to apply for the daytime Talmud program. Here, students will learn in a more rigorous setting alongside students in the full-time program. The Advanced Talmud shiur meets two days a week, Mondays and Wednesdays, from 9:30 am– Noon. All students in this course will be expected to prepare a minimum of 4-6 hours in chevruta for each shiur. Focus will be on skill-building and learning to learn Talmud. Close attention will be paid to technical terms, acquisition of talmudic vocabulary, the structure of the sugya, and the meta-messages of the text and the Rabbis who created it. Students will learn Mishnah, Gemara, Rashi, Tosafot, codes, and mefarshim, medieval commentaries. In-depth mastery and memorization of all material is expected. Taught by Rabbi Lappe.
Students applying to the daytime Talmud bet midrash must have the equivalent of one year of college Hebrew and be committed to an extremely rigorous and demanding course of study. In-depth mastery and memorization of every text learned is expected of every student. Admission is by interview with Rabbi Lappe and written application.
